Life Relived

Life ReLived is an exploration and reconstruction of my family photo album. Creating this series was a way for me to participate in past memories that I was not actually a part of, but are a part of me.
My grandfather passed away shortly after my passion for photography began to take shape and this project has proven itself to be part of my grieving for him. It has also allowed me the opportunity to connect more deeply with him as I studied how he saw life, and our family, through his lens.I sat down with my grandmother to ask her questions and listen to her stories. I went through boxes of photographs and felt as if many of the stories were missing from the photos, while many stories had no visuals attached to them at all.I had a strong desire and determination to fill in the intimate parts of my family history that went un-photographed as a way to keep their stories alive. In doing so, I recreated a time gone by and entered into my grandparents' memories, recapturing the moments of their life together, and photographing what might have happened before or after their original snapshots were taken. By stepping into those moments, I caught a glimpse into the lives of my ancestors before the thought of me ever crossed their minds. I placed myself into a world that they experienced without me and added my interpretation to their story. Wanting to live life again with them, I made my way into their past. This project became a way for me to hold onto them longer and to create new memories-hybrids of my grandparents' experiences and my own. While creating a world in which my present life intertwined with my family's past, I granted myself the chance to collaborate with my grandparents, constructing a new reality, as I witnessed a life relived. Exhibit
